<p>Sending targeted push notifications is one of BravoShop's great strengths. It allows you to tailor the your offers to specific customer segments - easily.</p>
<p>However, defining <em>customer segments</em> as &quot;customers who have viewed product X&quot; is a bit of a simplification. An oversimplification.</p>

## Improved push targeting

<p>The end of the year is near. This month we have focused on housekeeping and ensuring the stability of our platform.</p>
<p>Back in October we had a major outage, lasting for 30 hours. While we did our best to be transparent and keep our customers up to date, it wasn't a great start to the weekend. We spent most of Saturday communicating with both Shopify and our customers - and luckily fixed the root cause.</p>
<p>Since then we have spent a lot of time on making the platform more stable while ensuring product and order data is always up-to-date. And for the most part, I would say we have succeeded.</p>

<p>When OpenAI launched ChatGPT last year, it didn't take long for software companies to add rushed &quot;AI&quot; features to their product. Sadly, in a lot of cases it ended up being an awkward &quot;chat with our platform&quot; feature, rarely providing any real value.</p>
<p>At BravoShop, we have also spent a fair bit of time pondering. Could we do something cool? Something useful? A feature that utilizes AI to help merchants work better and more efficiently?</p>
<p>And I think we did.</p>
<p>Starting today, all new BravoShop apps will include an automatically generated layout, based on your website, products, and categories. Using the GPT API, the platform will try to summarize your brand's unique selling points and the look and feel.</p>
<p>We are hoping this can help merchants get started with BravoShop even faster!</p>
<p>While this does not affect existing customers, we are hoping to expand this functionality to also help you quickly set up new pages in your existing app.</p>

As promised last month, we have two new exciting things to announce today:

1. AI generated layouts
2. Customization Update

Let's get to it!

## AI generated layout

When OpenAI launched ChatGPT last year, it didn't take long for software companies to add rushed "AI" features to their product. Sadly, in a lot of cases it ended up being an awkward "chat with our platform" feature, rarely providing any real value.

At BravoShop, we have also spent a fair bit of time pondering. Could we do something cool? Something useful? A feature that utilizes AI to help merchants work better and more efficiently?

And I think we did.

Starting today, all new BravoShop apps will include an automatically generated layout, based on your website, products, and categories. Using the GPT API, the platform will try to summarize your brand's unique selling points and the look and feel.

We are hoping this can help merchants get started with BravoShop even faster!

While this does not affect existing customers, we are hoping to expand this functionality to also help you quickly set up new pages in your existing app.

## Customization Update

An update that will **definitely** affect existing customers is the _Customization Update_.

<p>Our newest integration is with the subscription and payment provider <a href="https://rechargepayments.com/" target="_blank">Recharge Payments</a>. September 2023: Sell subscription products with Recharge

<p>For many e-commerce owners and operators, the thought of adding another sales channel can be intimidating. There is already so much day-to-day work that needs to be completed!</p>
<p>We understand that. That's why we always try to create <em>less</em> work for our customers, rather than more. Whether that is by automating certain tasks, or allowing work to be done in advance (which leads us to the <strong>scheduled blocks</strong> feature).</p>
<p>We have a lot to cover today, so settle in!</p>
<h1 id="scheduled-blocks" tabindex="-1">Scheduled blocks</h1>
<p><img src="/whats-new/scheduling-blocks.png" alt="Schedule blocks to be shown and hidden at specific times"></p>
<p>Instead of sitting up at 23:59 remove your Black Friday offer from the app, you can now simply set a &quot;Visible Until&quot; time.</p>
<p>This will automatically hide the block for all your customers when the specified time has passed. The block will still be available to you in the app builder, in case you want to bring it back at a later time or use it as a reference.</p>
<p>You can also combine <em>Visible From</em> and <em>Visible Until</em> to create a block that is only visible in a specific time span. This could be used for a flash sale where a discount code is only visible in the app for 15 minutes.</p>
<p>We're excited to see what you build using the scheduling feature!</p>

<p>Some brands need to display more information about their products than just a title and a description. For brands selling food, this might be the nutritional content, while for brands selling clothing it could be the fabric type.</p>

<p>With the <em>Product Metadata</em> extension you can decide what extra information should displayed on the product page in your app. You can also split the fields into multiple sections.</p>

<p>The stats you can see in BravoShop are meant to give you an overview of how your app is doing (app sales, monthly active users, new installs, etc). There is currently no way to dig deeper and look at detailed analytics.</p>
<p>We are changing that <strong>right now</strong>!</p>

For many e-commerce owners and operators, the thought of adding another sales channel can be intimidating. There is already so much day-to-day work that needs to be completed!

We understand that. That's why we always try to create _less_ work for our customers, rather than more. Whether that is by automating certain tasks, or allowing work to be done in advance (which leads us to the **scheduled blocks** feature).

We have a lot to cover today, so settle in!

# Scheduled blocks

Instead of sitting up at 23:59 remove your Black Friday offer from the app, you can now simply set a "Visible Until" time.

This will automatically hide the block for all your customers when the specified time has passed. The block will still be available to you in the app builder, in case you want to bring it back at a later time or use it as a reference.

You can also combine _Visible From_ and _Visible Until_ to create a block that is only visible in a specific time span. This could be used for a flash sale where a discount code is only visible in the app for 15 minutes.

# Product metafields

Some brands need to display more information about their products than just a title and a description. For brands selling food, this might be the nutritional content, while for brands selling clothing it could be the fabric type.

With the _Product Metadata_ extension you can decide what extra information should displayed on the product page in your app. You can also split the fields into multiple sections.

# Launching analytics (beta)

The stats you can see in BravoShop are meant to give you an overview of how your app is doing (app sales, monthly active users, new installs, etc). There is currently no way to dig deeper and look at detailed analytics.

We are changing that **right now**!

<p>This month we released features to more closely connect your app to your website.</p>

<p>Even if customers have your app installed, they may sometimes need to open a link to your website. Sometimes they search for one of your products in Google, other times they open a link directly from one of your Instagram posts.</p>

<p>One of the questions we get most often is &quot;Do you integrate with <em>X</em>?&quot;, where <em>X</em> is a Shopify App the customer already has installed. Since there are <strong>a lot</strong> of apps in the Shopify App Store (more than 8,000 <a href="https://apps.shopify.com/" target="_blank">according to Shopify</a>), we frequently have to disappoint: &quot;No, sorry&quot;.</p>
<p>However, if you've interacted with our support, you already know the follow-up:</p>

Since there are **a lot** of apps in the Shopify App Store (more than 8,000 [according to Shopify](https://apps.shopify.com/)), we frequently have to disappoint: "No, sorry".

<p>This month we expanded the list of available languages considerably. While the BravoShop platform is still only available in English (and probably will be for a while), the app we create for your store is now available in <strong>8</strong> languages:</p>
<ol>
<li>English</li>
<li>Danish</li>
<li>German</li>
<li>Spanish</li>
<li>French</li>
<li>Dutch</li>
<li>Norwegian</li>

<p>Another major learning has been that while most e-commerce businesses need the same <em>core functionality</em> in an app, they are (of course) unique brands! To capture each brand's uniqueness, we have added a new list of settings, which we call your <em>App Theme</em>.</p>
<p>Right now the theme includes the most essential colors and labels. However, we are planning on continually increase the number of theme settings available to merchants.</p>

<p>To make BravoShop accessible to more parts of the world, we need to allow merchants to present their app in their preferred currency and language.</p>
<p>That's why we have added support for an additional 14 currencies.</p>

<p>As we mentioned previously, <strong>brands are unique</strong>. Therefore they also require unique ways to showcase their products and collections.</p>
<p>We have added a new Category Grid block to allow you to show up to 24 categories in a grid.</p>

<p>Most e-commerce owners and operators have their website under control. They know the possibilities, limitations, and how to get the most out of it. However, very few have experience operating a mobile app. It can be hard to get started!</p>
<p>To address this concern, we have added a list of recommended actions when your app is published to the App Store.</p>

<li>The search algorithm now better handles unusual characters</li>
<li>Customers will no longer rarely get rate limited when they try to register an account</li>
<li>In rare cases, the app would crash if a customer tried to scroll in the opposite direction as intended. This no longer happens.</li>

Another major learning has been that while most e-commerce businesses need the same *core functionality* in an app, they are (of course) unique brands! To capture each brand's uniqueness, we have added a new list of settings, which we call your *App Theme*.

Right now the theme includes the most essential colors and labels. However, we are planning on continually increase the number of theme settings available to merchants.

## Other changes

### New currencies

To make BravoShop accessible to more parts of the world, we need to allow merchants to present their app in their preferred currency and language.

That's why we have added support for an additional 14 currencies.

### New block: Category Grid

As we mentioned previously, **brands are unique**. Therefore they also require unique ways to showcase their products and collections.

We have added a new Category Grid block to allow you to show up to 24 categories in a grid.

### Recommendations when getting started

Most e-commerce owners and operators have their website under control. They know the possibilities, limitations, and how to get the most out of it. However, very few have experience operating a mobile app. It can be hard to get started!

To address this concern, we have added a list of recommended actions when your app is published to the App Store.

## Other changes and improvements

- You can now choose the order categories appear in for your category blocks
- You can now send push notifications to the preview app
- We have improved the search layout for long category names
- If a product has the compare at price set to 0, the app will no longer show it as an offer
- We no longer show products in the app, if they have been removed from the BravoShop sales channel
- The search algorithm now better handles unusual characters
- Customers will no longer rarely get rate limited when they try to register an account
- In rare cases, the app would crash if a customer tried to scroll in the opposite direction as intended. This no longer happens.

March 2023: Set up automated push notification flows and change the app theme

<p>This is the first &quot;What's New&quot; ever. Since BravoShop itself is new, let me first tell you a bit about how it started.</p>
<h2 id="backstory" tabindex="-1">Backstory</h2>
<p>I spent most of 2022 creating custom mobile apps for clients. One day, I was approached by an e-commerce brand. They were interested in creating a mobile app for their brand.</p>
<p>They had all the selling points prepared:</p>
<ul>
<li>We want to be closer to our customers</li>
<li>We want to create a community around our brand, and be more than just a storefront</li>
<li>We want to reward our best customers</li>
<li>... also, we heard an app converts at a much higher rate than a website</li>
</ul>
<p>All very good arguments!</p>
<p>This was not a major brand. It was a fairly small, family-run business, who took great pride in providing the best service for their customers - and they wanted to take that even further.</p>
<p>After talking for a bit, they were less interested. Turns out building a custom app from scratch is... expensive. While they could see all the benefits of an app, the cost of building and maintaining a custom app from scratch was simply out of their reach.</p>
<p>New plan: Don't create an app. It's way too expensive!</p>
<p>But wait...</p>
<p>... what if it didn't have to be?</p>
<p>I mean, most e-commerce apps have the same core functionality:</p>

<li>Pay</li>

<li><strong>And finally:</strong> The app can be published in the App Store and on Google Play under the brand's own name</li>
</ul>
<p>We have kept the scope tight to ensure a relatively quick launch. We will add more features every week based on customer feedback. And before you know it, you will be able to do all kinds of cool things.</p>
